SPRINGFIELD, MO. (SEPTEMBER 11, 2012) - Texas Rangers catcher Mike Napoli will begin a rehab assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders tonight when the team begins the Texas League Championship Series at the Springfield Cardinals. He is expected to remain with the team through at least the first two games of the series.
Napoli, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on August 11 with a left quadriceps strain. In 92 games this season for the Rangers, he is batting .223 (67 for 301) with 17 home runs, seven doubles, two triples, 40 runs batted in and 45 runs scored. Last year Napoli set career-highs by hitting .320 with 30 home runs, 25 doubles and 75 runs batted in. He was terrific in the 2011 World Series against St. Louis, hitting .350 with two home runs and ten runs batted in, tying for the third-most RBI ever produced in a Fall Classic.
The TLCS begins tonight in Springfield and will continue at the home of the North Division champion on Wednesday. The series shifts to Frisco for games three, four and five (if necessary) beginning on Friday. All TLCS games at Dr Pepper Ballpark this weekend start at 7 p.m. and tickets may still be purchased at the team box office, by calling (972) 334-1993 or by visiting www.ridersbaseball.com.
