Buccaneers Open Training Camp

September 10, 2012 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Des Moines Buccaneers

Urbandale (IA) The speculation and prognostications from amateur sports fortune-tellers will continue for another few weeks but starting Monday the Des Moines Buccaneers' will make their first appearance on the ice as a team when training camp opens. Games that count don't begin until September 28th so there is still time for everyone to offer their opinions on the fate of the 2012-2013 Bucs but at least the team will be physically on the ice giving new head coach Jon Rogger an opportunity to see a team that until this point he has only had on paper.

A few United States Hockey League teams started their camps in the past two weeks and a number have even held preseason games already, but the Bucs waited when considering the length of the season as it is. About half the team has been in town since late August as they attend classes at Valley High School. Those players have skated informally and they were joined by older players over the last few days.

A roster will be available to fans at the preseason home game against Omaha this Saturday night.

Pre-Season Debut This Weekend

The Buccaneers take to the ice for competitive games for the first time this weekend with a home and home with the Omaha Lancers. Friday night the teams will be in Nebraska before a 7pm tilt at Buccaneer Arena on Saturday night.

All tickets are only $10, with season ticket holders gaining free admission on Saturday night.

Sept. 14 at Omaha 7pm

Sept. 15 vs. Omaha 7pm

Sept. 19 Cedar Rapids (Sioux City) 1pm

Sept. 20 Youngstown (Sioux City) 2pm

Sept. 21 Indiana (Sioux City) 10am

Fresh Website

Visitors to the Des Moines Buccaneers' official website (bucshockey.com) have noticed a brand new site over the last few days as the team completely reinvented it's Internet presence.. The upgrading of the website is the first overhaul in a number of years and will feature a crisper, brighter look. The new website will also integrate better with the team's social media platforms and allow for quicker updating of content.

Dance Party

The Des Moines Buccaneers are planning to roll out a brand new dance team in 2012-2013. Interested candidates are asked to contact the Buccaneers at emily@bucshockey.com. Tryouts will be held Sept. 22-23 and those participating must be at least 18 years of age.

Hall of Fame Committee Continues Preparations

The revived Des Moines Buccaneers' franchise Hall of Fame will begin taking significant steps forward later this month when the committee begins to nominate and select those individuals who will make up the first class of inductees since 2002.

The Committee will next meet Tuesday September 18 at Buccaneer Arena at 7pm with the objective of narrowing down the nomination list.

The Buccaneers announced in late June plans to bring back the Hall of Fame which had fallen into dormancy over the last decade. Plans include a special Hall of Fame weekend in March and the placing of a permanent display inside of the arena before the end of 2012-2013.

Promotional Schedule Announcement

The 2012-2013 promotional schedule will be released in the middle of September but fans can be assured of the return of popular favorite such as the Animal Rescue League Doxie Dash and a number of charity jersey auctions.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are preparing for their 33rd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League beginning in the Fall of 2012. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
