Blowout Loss Ends Chukars' Season

Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
An up and down season for the Chukars unfortunately ended on the down side Thursday night, as the Greybirds were roughed up by the Orem Owlz 15-3 in the final game of the season at Melaleuca Field. The Owlz pounded the Chukars for 19 hits in the game, 12 of them going for extra bases.
Rehabbing Kansas City Royals pitching prospect John Lamb was roughed up in his second start for the Chukars, allowing six runs on seven hits over his 3.1 innings pitched. The highly regarded southpaw struggled with his fastball command while walking two and striking out four.
The rest of the Idaho Falls pitching staff didn't far much better, as Ali Williams, Alec Mills, Spencer Patton and David Middendorf combined to allow nine more Owlz runs over the final five innings. Only Mills escaped his outing unscathed, going 1.2 scoreless innings on just two hits.
Offensively the Chukars were able to muster a first inning run thanks to a leadoff triple by center fielder Ethan Chapman and an RBI single from catcher Jin-Ho Shin. The tally temporarily tied the game at 1-1, but Orem would proceed to score 14 unanswered runs to pull away.
The Chukars bats, meanwhile, wouldn't score again until first baseman Jared Schlehuber and third baseman Nick DelGuidice each hit solo homers in the ninth.
Orem reliever Joey Krehbiel (2-2) came away with the win for the Owlz after tossing three shutout innings out of the bullpen while Lamb (0-1) took the loss for the Chukars.
With the Chukars (18-20) loss and Owlz (18-20) win, the two teams split their season series at eight games apiece while finishing both the second half of the season and the entire Pioneer League season with identical records.
With the season over the Chukars stretch their streak of not making the playoffs to five seasons while the Owlz miss the postseason for the first time in 10 years.
