YORK, Pennsylvania - Scott Kazmir recorded his second straight win of the season behind 14 hits and double-digit run support in game two's 10-3 win Tuesday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium over the Revolution.
Scott Kazmir (2-6) made his 11th start of the season coming off his best outing in two years of professional baseball when he went eight innings against Bridgeport six days ago.
The York Revolution started the scoring in game two with two runs in the bottom of the first to counteract giving up two runs in the top of the first last night. Brandon Haveman reached on a single to start and was moved to second one batter later on a Michael Hernandez single into left. Joe Thurston grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners before catcher Matt Hagen was tagged with a passed-ball to bring in the runner from third, 1-0. In the same at-bat, Andres Perez smacked a RBI single on a hit-and-run to bring Thurston in for the second run, 2-0.
Sugar Land fought back with four runs off six hits in the fourth off starter Ryan Feierabend (7-4). Steve Moss started the inning with a double. After a Josh Pressley strikeout, the Skeeters knocked four straight singles - Jason Lane, Carlos Sosa, Aaron Bates and Matt Hagen - to overtake York, 3-2. Iggy Suarez struck out to put two outs on the board, but Ofilio Castro extended the inning with another RBI single up the middle to cap the scoring at 4-2 before the inning ended.
After a scoreless fourth for York, Sugar Land powered four more runs on the board off Feierabend before he was pulled after giving up a RBI single to Josh Pressley and a three-run homer (4) to Aaron Bates to push the lead up to six, 8-2. Feierabend managed just four and two-thirds innings giving up 11 hits and eight earned runs.
York managed to get one run back in the following half inning off Kazmir when Hernandez drove in Haveman from first after the left fielder was hit by a pitch to leadoff the fifth. Haveman moved to second on a wild-pitch and then came in on the single, 8-3.
Kazmir exited the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth with two outs in the inning after striking out eight batters while walking just one in his second straight solid outing.
Sugar Land managed two more runs in the top of the eighth off relievers Stephen Penney and Kris Regas. With the bases loaded and two outs in the inning, Regas gave up a two RBI double to Steve Moss to increase the lead up to seven, 10-3.
Pedro Liriano worked an inning and a third of relief giving up just one hit while striking out two before Jeff Farnsworth closed out the game after Liriano left with an apparent injury after giving up a single in the bottom of the eighth to the first batter he faced.
Coming up next...The Sugar Land Skeeters (27-25) prepare for game three of four against the York Revolution (28-23) scheduled for Wednesday night from Sovereign Bank Stadium. Michael Nix (4-9, 5.36 ERA) fires for the Skeeters against former Skeeter and current Rev Derrick Gordon (4-7, 5.33 ERA) with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CDT.
