Buccaneers Season Opener Approaching

September 4, 2012 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Des Moines Buccaneers

Urbandale (IA) The ice at Buccaneer Arena is getting its final touches before completion and soon the Des Moines Buccaneers' will open training camp in preparation for the team's 33rd season in the United States Hockey League. New head coach Jon Rogger, along with a handful of players who are currently attending Valley High School, have been in town for the better part of three weeks and they will be joined throughout this week by the remainder of the team's training camp roster.

Rogger will open the team's training camp on September 10th at Buccaneer Arena and between that date and the team's season opener September 28th at the National Development Program's Under 17 team, he will whittle down to his final roster.

The new version of the Buccaneers will assume the debt of a disappointing finish by the 2011-2012 team that saw a 14-game losing streak and a coaching change occur last spring. A few returning players are expected on the team's training camp roster though for the most part fans will be seeing brand new faces and getting familiar with new names come the beginning of the season.

Pre-Season Schedule

Fans will get the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the Buccaneers with five preseason games scheduled, including one at home. The Buccaneers will play at Omaha on Sept. 14th, then return home to face Omaha on Sept. 15th. Des Moines will then take part in the USHL's annual Fall Classic Sept. 19-21, completing a preseason slate that will see the team play five games over a week.

On the Web

Visitors to the Des Moines Buccaneers' official website (bucshockey.com) will be in for a treat in the coming days as the team unveils a brand new website. The upgrading of the website is the first overhaul in a number of years and will feature a crisper, brighter look. The new website will also integrate better with the team's social media platforms and allow for quicker updating of content.

Dance Party

The Des Moines Buccaneers are planning to roll out a brand new dance team in 2012-2013. Interested candidates are asked to contact the Buccaneers at emily@bucshockey.com. Tryouts will be held Sept. 22-23 and those participating must be at least 18 years of age.

Hall of Fame Committee Continues Preparations

The revived Des Moines Buccaneers' franchise Hall of Fame will begin taking significant steps forward later this month when the committee begins to nominate and select those individuals who will make up the first class of inductees since 2002.

The Buccaneers announced in late June plans to bring back the Hall of Fame which had fallen into dormancy over the last decade. Plans include a special Hall of Fame weekend in March and the placing of a permanent display inside of the arena before the end of 2012-2013.
