Houston Dynamo FC News Release

The Houston Dynamo fell to the Chicago Fire, 3-1, on Sunday night at Toyota Park. Patrick Nyarko, Dan Paladini and Alex tallied goals for the Fire while Dynamo forward Brian Ching brought Houston within a goal with a late header.

Nyarko secured a 1-0 lead for Chicago less than a minute into the game. The Fire midfielder seized an errant Dynamo pass in the center circle and sprinted in alone before firing past Tally Hall just 47 seconds into the contest for his third goal of the year.

The Dynamo appeared to have an equalizer in the 13th minute as Andre Hainault served a low, driven cross across the six-yard box, where it was mishandled by Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Dynamo forward Macoumba Kandji directed the rebound into the not for an apparent equalizer, but referee David Gantar, after a delay, ruled that Kandji had used his hand.

Six minutes later, Chicago extended its lead. Paladini completed a quick sequence between Fernandez and MacDonald with a strong, first-time shot from ten yards for a Fire goal.

In the 90th minute Ching received a fine delivery from Brad Davis off a corner kick and produced an impressive header from ten yards, past Johnson for his fifth goal of the season.

The Dynamo were within a goal and threatened for the equalizer before Chicago hit back on a counterattack, with Alex cracking a shot from 20 yards off the inside of the post and into the opposite side of the net for his first MLS goal and a 3-1 Chicago win.

It was Ching's 82nd career regular season goal to pull into a tie for 11th on the Major League Soccer all-time scoring list with Raul Diaz Arce. Roy Lassiter and Carlos Ruiz (88 goals each) are Ching's next targets on the list.

Ching also set a new career-high by playing in 26 regular season games for the first time in his career.

It was Davis' 11th assist of the season and 91st career regular season assist. He is now even with Cobi Jones for seventh on the league's all-time assist chart. Marco Etcheverry (101 assists) is Davis' next milestone on the assist chart.

It was Corey Ashe's 100th regular season start to tie Geoff Cameron for sixth on the Dynamo franchise list.

It was Bobby Boswell's 171st start for Houston in all competitions to pass Pat Onstad for second on the franchise chart.

It was Ricardo Clark and Andre Hainault's 98th regular season start with the Dynamo. Both players tied Wade Barrett for eighth on the franchise list.

The Dynamo (11-7-9; 42 points) fall to fourth place in the Eastern Conference, eight points behind leaders Sporting Kansas City.

Next Match: Thursday, Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Real Salt Lake, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston
