SUGAR LAND, Texas - Scott Kazmir threw an eight-inning gem en route to a 6-1 win for the Skeeters in the finale against the Bluefish in front of 5764 fans Wednesday night at Constellation Field. Sugar Land wins the series (4-2) and their first at home in the second half.

In a rematch of game one from five days ago, Scott Kazmir (1-6) made his second start of the series against Gilbert De La Vara (9-8). In the top of the first, Bridgeport took an early lead with a two-out solo home run (14) from Prentice Redman, 1-0. Sugar Land responded in the bottom of the inning when Ofilio Castro walked to lead off and Dominic Ramos singled to put him in scoring position. After Dionys Cesar loaded the bases with a single, Bubba Bell drove two in with a RBI single into right to give the good guys the 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second, the Skeeters doubled their run total with two more to go up 4-1. Manny Mejia walked to start and was pushed to third on Octavio Martinez's single with one out. Castro drove in Mejia from third with a single, and Ramos brought in Martinez after he grounded out to third.

After failing to score through the middle five innings, in the bottom of the eighth, Sugar Land broke the bank with back-to-back home runs from Manny Mejia and Iggy Suarez off reliever Julio DePaula. Both solo shots, the fourth of the season for Mejia and sixth of the year for Suarez, capped the scoring for the Skeeters at 6-1.

Kazmir finished the night after throwing eight innings while giving up just two hits and one run with a walk and three strikeouts for his first win of the year and first in professional baseball since 2010. The series win for the Skeeters is the fourth of the season and first of the second half.

Coming up next...The Sugar Land Skeeters (24-23) have a day off before hitting the road for seven games over seven days, three against the Camden Riversharks and four against the York Revolution. The team returns home in a week's time for a mini four-game series against the Long Island Ducks at Constellation Field.
