Solar Bears Agree to Terms with Forward T.J. FoxAugust 29, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) Orlando Solar Bears
Fox (6'1", 196 lbs.) comes to Orlando after spending last season with the Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League. With Texas, Fox appeared in 63 games, notching 18 goals and 37 assists for 55 points. The American-born forward spent the previous season in Germany's second division, where he accrued 31 points on 14 goals and 17 assists in 47 games.
Fox has one season of ECHL experience under his belt, as he tallied 26 goals and 34 assists for 60 points in 64 games with the Wheeling Nailers in 2009-10. The Oswego, NY, native began his professional career with back-to-back seasons in the American Hockey League with the Worcester Sharks from 2007-2009, where he picked up 42 points with 19 goals and 23 assists in his 154 games.
Prior to turning pro, Fox skated for two seasons with Union College (NCAA) from 2005-07, leading his team in assists (24) and points (37) during his sophomore campaign. He also spent three years in the USHL, appearing in 148 games with the Chicago Steel and Green Bay Gamblers while registering 83 points.
"T.J. is a skilled puck-moving forward who can help generate offense on the ice," said Head Coach Drake Berehowsky. "He has a lot of experience playing in many different leagues, from the AHL to Germany, so we will value his leadership skills this season."
The Solar Bears begin the regular season with three straight games on the road against the Everblades. The Home Opener for the "Out of Hibernation" season starts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20. The Solar Bears expect to announce a number of player signings, details for our OSB Training Camp dates, details regarding the formation of the OSB Alumni Association, two trophies that will be awarded annually to a current Bears player in honor and memory of both Dan Snyder and Rob Kenny, and a number of exciting promotional events over the next two to four weeks. The team also plans to unveil its 3rd jersey during the early portion of the season. The Orlando Solar Bears, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and AHL's Houston Aeros, are coming Out of Hibernation and will play 36 regular season home games at the 2012 Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year, the Amway Center, beginning October 20, 2012.
