Lake Elsinore, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm, in conjunction with the San Diego Blood Bank, announced that they will host a blood & bone marrow drive Saturday, August 18 on behalf of Bryce Jones. Bryce, the son of Storm General Manager Chris Jones, battled a rare blood disorder called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) that can attack the body's tissues or organs. The best chance for a cure of this condition is a bone marrow transplant, which Bryce had in August 2004. Bryce is currently an advocate for this disorder and this great cause.

The blood drive and bone marrow testing will take place at The Diamond Stadium, 500 Diamond Drive, Lake Elsinore, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., before the Storm's August 18 game against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. As part of the event, there will be food and each registrant will receive a ticket voucher to that night's game along with a free t-shirt.

"Luckily we caught Bryce's disorder at an early age," said Chris Jones. "We want to educate people about the importance of joining the bone marrow registry and donating blood so other patients like Bryce can get the help they need to survive."

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 60, who is in good health, may be eligible to join the National Marrow Donor Program registry as a volunteer donor. The blood test to join the registry involves a very small blood sample and just a few minutes. For more information and a list of donor center locations, please call 1-800-4MY-SDBB or visit www.SanDiegoBloodBank.org. Interested individuals may also contact the Lake Elsinore Storm at 951-245-4487 for more information.

"There is no substitute for donated blood," said Jackie Vella, Director of the San Diego Blood Bank Foundation. "No matter how advanced the hospital or skilled the physician, if the donated blood a patient needs is not available, his or her life might not be saved. We are extremely grateful to Storm Baseball for hosting The Storm Blood Drive."

Saturday is also a Social Media Saturday at The Diamond, "Like us" on Facebook at Facebook.com/LakeElsinoreStorm or "Follow us" on Twitter at @Storm_Baseball for in-game prizes. For more information, contact the Storm at 951-245-4487 or visit them online at www.stormbaseball.com.
