San Jose Giants News Release

SAN JOSE - All nine Lancaster starters finished with at least one hit and the JetHawks never trailed in a 7-3 victory over the San Jose Giants on Friday evening in front of 4,826 fans at Municipal Stadium. In the opener of a three-game series, San Jose scored three runs over the last three innings, but could not overcome a 7-0 deficit to suffer the loss.

Andrew Susac (3-for-4, 2B, RBI) had three hits and Ricky Oropesa (1- for-4, HR, 2 RBI) homered for the second consecutive game to lead the Giants offensively. Adam Duvall (1-for-4) also extended his hitting streak to 15 games.

Lancaster jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a single run in the top of the second inning against San Jose starter Jack Snodgrass. Consecutive singles from Domingo Santana and Drew Muran started the frame before Telvin Nash grounded out to move the runners to second and third. Jonathan Meyer then grounded out to second plating Santana with the first run of the contest.

The JetHawks extended their lead with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Santana led off with a fly ball triple down the right field line before scoring when the next batter, Muran, reached base on a fielding error committed by Joe Panik at shortstop. After a walk to Nash, Meyer doubled to score another run and make it 3-0. Meyer's hit put runners at second and third with none out for Lancaster, but Snodgrass was able to limit the damage in the inning as he induced Roberto Pena to groundout before Andrew Aplin struck out and Delino DeShields, Jr. flied out.

Snodgrass held Lancaster off the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth innings with no hits allowed in each frame before the JetHawks rallied with a four-run top of the seventh. Back-to-back singles from Pena and Aplin started the inning and prompted a pitching change as Stephen Harrold was summoned from the bullpen. DeShields, Jr. followed with a single to load the bases and then Alex Todd lined a two-RBI single into center for a 5-0 Lancaster advantage. Erik Castro followed with an RBI single down the right field line to make it 6-0 and after Santana struck out, Muren reached on a fielder's choice to score another run. The JetHawks sent all nine batters to the plate in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 7-0.

Nick Tropeano started on the mound for Lancaster and began his outing with six scoreless innings. Tropeano faced the minimum 12 batters over the first four frames as Duvall's leadoff single in the second and Alex Burg's leadoff walk in the third were both erased by double plays. In the fifth with the JetHawks ahead by three runs, Susac and Burg delivered back-to-back two-out singles, but Bobby Haney struck out to end the inning. Tropeano then retired the Giants 1-2-3 in the sixth.

San Jose finally broke through against Tropeano in the bottom of the seventh as Carter Jurica led off with a single before he was forced out at second on Duvall's fielder's choice grounder. Duvall advanced to second on the play when DeShields' throw to first bounced away for an error. Then with two outs, Susac ripped a double down the left field line to bring home Duvall with the first Giants run of the night.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jurica led off by drawing a walk and then with one out, Oropesa crushed an opposite-field two-run homer to left center bringing San Jose to within 7-3. The home run was Oropesa's 14th of the season. Susac followed with a bunt single, however Lancaster reliever Jose Trinidad recovered to strikeout Burg and Haney to finish the game.

Tropeano (3-3) earned the win after limiting the Giants to a single run on five hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Snodgrass (10-5) surrendered five runs (four earned) on eight hits over six-plus innings to take the loss. He walked two and struck out six.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval finished 0-for-2 with a pair of fly outs in the first game of his rehabilitation assignment. Sandoval was removed from the game after the fifth inning.
