Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, continued their offensive onslaught Friday, hitting the Frederick Keys with an 8-0 drubbing at Harry Grove Stadium. The Pelicans have now outscored their opponents 28-4 in their last three games.
Most of Myrtle's offense appeared right off the bat. The Pelicans got their leadoff runner on in the first when Odubel Herrera got on base courtesy of an error by Frederick first baseman Tyler Townsend. Three batters later the Pelicans delivered Herrera with a double from Brett Nicholas. It was 1-0.
In the second the Pelicans added four more against Frederick starter Tim Berry. Tomas Telis began by doubling for the first of his four hits. He becomes the fourth Pelican to pick up four hits in a game this year. Jeremy Williams then reached on an error by third baseman Michael Mosby to move Telis to third. Williams stole second to break up the double play and two batters later Josh Richmond delivered an RBI single to right. The next three Pelicans picked up RBI on a single by Herrera, a sac fly by Teodoro Martinez and a single by Hanser Alberto. It was 5-0.
The RBI for Alberto gives him an RBI in eight straight games. He's tied for third all-time in Pelicans history for most consecutive games with an RBI. With another tomorrow he'll tie Kala Ka'aihue for second and be just three back of Donnell Linares, who accomplished the feat in 12 straight in 2009.
Not finished yet the Pelicans scored twice in the sixth on a homerun from Jeremy Williams. It was his second homer in as many games and his ninth straight game with a hit. Telis then drove in a run with a single in the seventh for the 8-0 final.
On the mound Joe Van Meter rocked Frederick for five innings, allowing only two hits. Kyle DeVore, newly sidewinding Zach Osborne and Ben Rowen went four in relief to complete the Pelican's 13th shutout of the season, most in the Carolina League.
Myrtle Beach takes on Frederick again Saturday at 6pm. Randy Henry tosses against his former team, facing Tyler Wilson at Harry Grove Stadium. For more information head online to MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
