Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Thursday, August 9, 2012) - The Houston Dynamo will try to set a club-record with their sixth consecutive win on Friday when they visit Red Bull Arena for a clash with the New York Red Bulls. It's another Eastern Conference showdown, with Houston leading New York by two points atop the Eastern Conference standings.
The Dynamo have won five straight regular season games for the third time in team history and the first time since 2009.
Friday's match will begin at 7 p.m. CT. and will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network. It can also be heard locally on SportsTalk 790 AM (English) and La Ranchera 850 AM (Spanish).
Houston is 11-5-7 (40 points) after 23 games and tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with Sporting Kansas City. The Red Bulls are 11-7-5 (38 points) through 23 games and in third place in the Eastern Conference. In last week's meeting between the clubs, the Dynamo received first-half goals from Jermaine Taylor and Calen Carr en route to a 2-0 victory in front of a sold-out crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Red Bulls one the season's first meeting 1-0 on May 9.
The Dynamo are unbeaten in their last eight games (6-0-2). It is the longest regular season unbeaten streak since Houston set a franchise record with 11 consecutive games without a loss, from April 11 - June 20, 2009 (8-0-3).
The Red Bulls are the only team besides the Dynamo with a perfect home record (7-0-3) in 2012. New York is led by French international Thierry Henry, with 11 goals and six assists in 16 games, and forward Kenny Cooper, who is tied for second in MLS with 13 goals. New York also features former Everton star and Australia international Tim Cahill, who signed with the Red Bulls on July 26 and made his MLS debut against the Dynamo on Friday.
Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall has ten shutouts on the season and is tied for the league lead. With one more shutout, Hall will tie the individual franchise record for shutouts in a season, set by Pat Onstad in 2007. Hall and the Dynamo have recorded six shutouts in their last seven games and have not allowed a goal in the run of play since June 30.
