Chattanooga, TN - With the Mississippi Braves leading 2-1 over the Chattanooga Lookouts in the ninth on Monday night, Ryan Buchter had one goal only: keep the runner at third at bay. And he did just that, striking out pinch hitter Luis Nunez to end the game and pick up the save.

That sealed franchise win #500 for the Braves (19-24; 49-64) and earned Gary Moran his fifth win of the season. The tall right-hander threw six innings of one-run baseball, allowing only four hits while striking out a career high 10.

Alden Carrithers pinch hit for Moran in the seventh, an inning in which the Braves scored twice to give Moran the lead just in time for the hurler to get a win. Joe Leonard smacked a ground-rule double off of reliever Eric Eadington and was driven in on a Phil Gosselin triple to tie the game. A batter later and with the infield playing in, Jaime Pedroza hit a bouncing ball to shortstop Jake Lemmerman, who threw it wide of home plate allowing Gosselin to score. The error put the Braves ahead 2-1, a lead they never relinquished.

In the ninth, Buchter gave up a leadoff double to JT Wise. Joe Becker pinch ran for Wise and moved to third on a Blake Smith ground out to short. Jake Lemmerman walked, putting men on the corners with only one out. But under pressure, Buchter shined, getting former Brave CJ Retherford to pop to second before striking out Nunez.

It was Buchter's fourth save of the season, and his second in three days. Eadington took the loss, his first of the year for Chattanooga (25-19; 57-55). Zach Lee took a no decision after giving up just four hits and striking out three in six innings.

Chattanooga took a lead in the bottom of the sixth. Wise stood at first base after one-out single, and Lemmerman doubled on a ball that Keenan Wiley lost in the sunset to score the run.

The Braves and Lookouts play their series finale, a rubber match, on Tuesday night at 6:15 PM CT. Right-hander Zeke Spruill (7-11, 3.96) takes the hill against Lookouts left-hander Chris Reed (0-2, 4.18). Fans can listen live on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com beginning at 6:00 PM CT with the Vicksburg Toyota "Countdown to First Pitch."
