Huntsville Stars News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Milwaukee Brewers and Huntsville Stars have made a roster move prior to tonight's game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Newly acquired SS Jean Segura has been recalled by the Brewers.
Segura, acquired from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in a trade that sent ace Zach Greinke to L.A., was batting .433 (13-for-30) in eight games with the Stars. He had three doubles, four RBIs and scored seven runs. In his 30 at-bats, he only struck out four times and drew four walks. The 22-year-old also swiped four bases and did not commit an error. Segura made his Major League debut with the Angels on July 24 against the Kansas City Royals. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his only game with the big league club. He was traded to the Brewers along with RHP Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg on July 27. He will replace Cesar Izturis who was claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals.
Segura is the second player to make the jump to the big leagues straight from Huntsville after pitcher Tyler Thornburg did that during the Southern League All-Star break. Segura joins Thornburg, infielder Jeff Bianchi and pitcher Jim Henderson as players from the Stars 2012 roster to join the Brewers at some point this season.
There is no corresponding move at this time. With this move, the Stars active roster is at 24 with four on the disabled list.
The Stars continue a 10-game homestand tonight with RHP Johnny Hellweg toeing the rubber for the Stars against the Blue Wahoos. Gates open at 6 p.m. with Happy Hour ($2 draft beers and Pepsi fountain products) until the first pitch at 6:43 p.m. For more information on the Huntsville Stars, visit huntsvillestars.com or call (256) 882-2562. Don't forget to keep up with the Stars on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and their official newsletter!
