
Generals Escape, Take Third Straight and Series

JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 6, 2012) - The Generals won their third straight game and won the series against Tennessee Monday, 7-6. The Generals have won each of the last three games by one run. Jackson trimmed the division lead to just a 1/2 game behind Chattanooga.
The Smokies jumped ahead with a run in the top of the second inning on an RBI base hit from Matt Cerda and led 1-0.
Jackson quickly erased the deficit with two outs in the bottom of the second getting a single from Johermyn Chavez that scored Rich Poythress. The game was tied at 1-1 after two.
The Generals batted nine in the fourth inning and took a commanding 6-1 lead. During the inning Rich Poythress belted a 2-run homer, his second of the season and first since April 19. Leury Bonilla picked up an RBI single and Francisco Martinez plated two runs with a single.
Justin Bour blasted a 3-run homer against Generals reliever Moises Hernandez in the top of the fifth inning, immediately cutting the lead to 6-4.
Stefen Romero homered for the third straight game in the bottom of the inning - a solo shot giving Jackson a 7-4 lead. Romero has 8 Jackson homers and 19 overall this season.
In the ninth, the Smokies got a 2-run home run from Junior Lake against Jackson closer Logan Bawcom. The homer trimmed the lead to the final score of 7-6.
Jackson starter Taijuan Walker took a no decision and left after 4.0 innings and 75 pitches. Walker allowed a run on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. Reliever Jandy Sena (2-2) earned the win logging 1.2 scoreless innings pitched. Bawcom surrendered 2 runs on 2 hits, walking 2, but earned his first Jackson save.
Romero was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and the homer Monday and Chih-Hsien Chiang was 2-for-4 with a run.
The Generals will conclude this series against the Smokies on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP James Paxton (6-3, 3.09) will start for Jackson against RHP Jacob Brigham (0-1, 6.00) for Tennessee.
