BayBears Cuffed by Barons in 8-4 Loss

The Mobile BayBears fell 8-4 to the Birmingham Barons Sunday afternoon at Regions Park. The Barons chased BayBears RHP Brett Lorin after just 1.1 innings, taking a 6-0 lead into the third inning. Birmingham scored the eight runs on 12 hits, while the BayBears were held to four runs on five hits.

The BayBears struggled through the first six innings, not recording a hit off of Barons LHP Spencer Arroyo until Alfredo Marte (pictured right) singled with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Matt Davidson followed Marte with a single, and Brent Clevlen drove in Mobile's first run of the game with a RBI single that scored Chris Owings, while Marte crossed the plate after a throwing error from centerfielder Kenny Williams Jr. David Nick cut the Baron's lead in half with a RBI single in the top of the ninth.

Lorin suffered the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings. The Barons scored first on a RBI single from Amdy Wilkins, and Erik Morrison gave Birmingham a 3-0 lead with a two-run single. The Barons struck for three more runs in the second inning after an RBI single from Carlos Sanchez and a two-run single from Morrison, who finished the game with two hits and five RBI.
