
Slam Leads Bluefish to Ferry Cup

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - Luis Rodriguez had six of the seven RBI on the night for the Bridgeport Bluefish (11-9, 42-48) in leading the team to an 8-5 victory against the Long Island Ducks (6-15, 45-45) at Bethpage Ballpark on Friday and won the Ferry Cup for the first time since 2010. The Bluefish are 11-6 against the Ducks this season.
Rodriguez hit a grand slam to leftcenter in the fourth and served a two-run single to leftcenter in the fifth. Prentice Redman and Brock Peterson scored twice on the evening; Peterson reached twice while Redman had two hits on Friday. Luis Lopez walked a couple of times while Eddie Rogers collected an RBI single and was hit-by-a-pitch. Gathright produced two hits for the winning side while Kennard Jones reached base twice on the evening before he was ejected in the fifth.
Josh Johnson and Reid Gorecki produced two hits and drove in a run for the losing team while Shawn Williams picked up two hits. Ray Navarrete and Brandon Sing drove in the only other runs on the night with Sing belting a solo homer to center in the seventh.
In his first start since July 13, Bridgeport starter, Paul Oseguera (7-2), picked up the win as the southpaw allowed one run on five hits and a walk while fanning five in five frames. The tandem of relievers including Matt Pike, Julio DePaula, Rommie Lewis, and Juan Rincon completed the final four frames. Bridgeport's combination gave up four runs on four hits and one walk while fanning three Ducks batters. Rincon notched his sixth save of 2012.
Long Island hurler, Chris Flinn (0-2), suffered the loss as the starter delivered four-and-a-third innings of six run, six hit, three walk and one strikeout baseball. Three members of the bullpen combined for the final four-and-two-third frames and surrendered two runs on four hits and a walk while Bridgeport struck out five times.
The Bluefish continue a three game series against the Long Island Ducks on Saturday from Bethpage Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Bridgeport righthanded starter Brad Thompson (1-0, 5.14 ERA) goes up against Long Island righthanded hurler Nick Singleton (3-3, 4.50 ERA). The voice of the Bridgeport Bluefish, Perry Miles, will have the call of the action. The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
