
RHP Bawcom Outrighted to Jackson from Trade with Dodgers

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (AUGUST 1, 2012) - The Seattle Mariners and Jackson Generals announce the following roster move. RHP Logan Bawcom has been activated to after being traded from the Dodgers to Mariners yesterday. Bawcom was currently playing for the Chattanooga Lookouts. To make room, RHP Stephen Kohlscheen has been transferred to High Desert after making just one appearance for Jackson.

BAWCOM, 23, has combined to go 4-4 with 20 saves, a 2.03 ERA (11 ER, 48.2 IP) and 11.09 K/9.0 IP (60 SO) in 39 relief appearances with Rancho Cucamonga (High-A) and Chattanooga (AA) this season (entering Monday). Bawcom is one of only 9 pitchers in the Minor Leagues to record at least 20 saves, and is T5th in the Southern League with 13 saves. Overall he has limited opponents to a .196 batting average (34x173), and allowed only one home run. Since June 26, he is 1-0 with 6 saves and a 0.60 ERA (1 ER, 15.0 IP) in 11 games with the Lookouts, lowering his Southern League ERA from 4.12 to 2.60.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed reliever was originally selected by the Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. In three minor league seasons he is 12-8 with 49 saves and a 2.96 ERA (47 ER, 143.0 IP) in 107 relief appearances. The native of Midland, Texas, played one season at UT Arlington (2010) and two seasons at Midland Junior College.
KOHLSCHEEN, 23, was promoted from High Desert on Monday when Jonathan Arias was placed on the DL. He made 1 appearance allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits, striking out 1. Kohlscheen previously had split the season between Low-A Clinton and High Desert and is 3-2, with a 4.04 ERA in 31 games, covering 55.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 74 batters and walked 28 this season. He posted 2 saves for High Desert. Kohlscheen was the Mariners 45th round draft choice in 2010 out of Auburn. He currently resides in Norman, Oklahoma.
