
Weekly Update: Rapids Host Real Salt Lake in Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup

RAPIDS HOST RIVALS REAL SALT LAKE IN SUBARU ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUP THIS SATURDAY: This Saturday, August 4, the Colorado Rapids host league rivals Real Salt Lake for the third and final leg of the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup at 7 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup is the annual competition between the two teams, where the winner of the three game series wins the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup Trophy. The Rapids will be seeking revenge at their home stadium for two prior losses this season in Salt Lake on April 7 and July 21. DICK'S SPORTING GOODS PARK HOSTS STEP UP FOR CANCER ON SUNDAY: This Sunday, August 5, Dick's Sporting Goods Park is hosting the fourth annual Step Up For Cancer, an active stair-climbing event inside the stadium to initiate awareness, fundraising and education on the fight against cancer. Throughout the concourse, there will be music, performers, restorative yoga, a kids zone and massage stations, as well as informational booths for the 43 non-profit organizations that will be participating. Online registration closes on August 2 at 12 noon, but racers can still register at the stadium on race-day.
ONE WEEK REMAINING IN AUCTION FOR HELPCOLORADONOW.ORG JERSEYS: The Colorado Rapids' special, game-worn jerseys from the match on July 4th, which featured the Colorado state flag and HelpColoradoNow.org across the chest, are being auctioned off to help raise money and awareness for those affected by the fires throughout the state. The auction will run until this Sunday, August 5, with proceeds going to charitable organizations through HelpColoradoNow.org, a website that brings together government agencies and non-profit organizations to assist communities affected by disaster.
RAPIDS RESERVES FACE REAL SALT LAKE RESERVES ON SUNDAY: The Colorado Rapids Reserves take on Real Salt Lake Reserves at home this Sunday, August 5 at 11 a.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Field 20. The Rapids Reserves defeated Salt Lake Reserves 1-0 on April 8 in Salt Lake from a Tony Cascio goal in the 26th minute. Colorado is 4-2-1 this season and is tied for first in the Central/Mountain Division with the Houston Dynamo Reserves (13 points) with three games remaining. The match on Sunday is open to the public and all fans and media are invited to attend.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS RAPIDS AND SOUNDERS TEAMS CONCLUDED SUMMER EVENTS: The Special Olympics Rapids and Sounders Soccer Teams concluded their summer series of events with a final match on Saturday, July 28, held on the pitch at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Earlier in the week, the two teams were recognized on the jumbotron at the Colorado Rockies game on Friday night, and spent Saturday morning at the Denver Zoo before heading to the stadium to watch the Colorado Rapids take on Seattle Sounders FC For full coverage of the Special Olympics events, visit the Colorado Rapids blog.
DILLON SERNA AND U-20 MNT FINISH 4th IN NORTHERN IRELAND MILK CUP: The United States Under-20 National Team finished 4th in the Northern Ireland Milk Cup last week, after falling 4-3 to Chile in the 3rd place match on Thursday, July 26. Throughout the tournament, Serna played the full 90 minutes in the squad's first match, a 1-0 loss to Denmark, and entered the match as an 83rd minute sub in the 1-0 victory over Turkey.
