Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS- Chris McGuiness hit his second walk off home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth propelling the 'Riders to win 2-1 over the Missions Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco has now won four games in a row, the second of this series.

It was a pitcher's duel as 'Riders starter Jake Brigham faced off against Missions' starter Matt Jackson who made his third Texas League start tonight. Both pitchers combined to throw five scoreless innings.

The Missions' first threatened to score in the sixth inning working the bases loaded but Brigham was able to get out of a jam retiring the final batter of the inning after fielding a ground ball and throwing to first.

Jackson was not so lucky as he allowed a double to Engel Beltre to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Beltre was moved to third on a ground out to the right side of the infield. Mike Olt then stepped into the box hitting a single up the middle that brought Beltre around to score giving Frisco a 1-0 lead.

'Riders reliever Carlos Pimentel tossed a scoreless seventh inning before Mark Lowe was brought in to pitch the eighth and face batters for the first time in a month. Lowe was on rehab assignment from the Texas Rangers recovering from a strained right intercostal muscle. Lowe retired two straight Missions' batters before giving up a solo home run to Edinson Rincon to tie the game. He then struck out Jason Hagerty to retire the side.

In the bottom of the frame, San Antonio reliever Thomas Layne retired two batters on five pitches but was replaced by Daniel Stange for the righty-lefty matchup against Jurickson Profar who flied out.

Frisco went to reliever Ross Wolf who worked out of a bases loaded threat to throw a scoreless ninth to keep the game tied at one run apiece. Stange worked quickly in the ninth striking out Mike Olt bringing up Chris McGuiness. With a 1-0 count, McGuiness stroked the ball to the grass berm beyond the right field fence to put Frisco up 2-1. It was his second walk off home run this season.

Ross Wolf picks up his second win pitching for one inning allowing two hits and no runs while walking one and striking out one. Daniel Stange is tagged with his second loss of the season pitching for 0.2 innings allowing one hit and one run while walking none and striking out one.

The RoughRiders face the Missions for game three Sunday night. Wilfredo Boscan (4-4, 4.01) gets the start for Frisco. He will be opposed by right-handed hurler Adys Portillo (0-1, 15.43). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 and can be heard on 1630 KKGM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 5:30.
