FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: The Rochester Red Wings tonight close out their 4-game series vs. Syracuse (Nationals), wrapping up the brief 4-game homestand before heading out on an 8-game roadtrip. The upcoming trip includes a pair of 4-game series at Columbus (Indians) and Toledo (Tigers). The Red Wings return home on August 6 for a 6-game stay at Frontier Field, the start of a stretch of playing 18 of their final 29 games at home.

a Tonight's game vs. Syracuse will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports (TWCS).

ROSTER NEWS: The Minnesota Twins today selected the contract of right-handed reliever Luis Perdomo, who takes the 25-man roster spot of righthander Anthony Swarzak. The former Red Wing was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List with a mildly strained right rotator cuff. To replace Perdomo on the Red Wings' 25-man roster, righthander Dan Turpen has been transferred from Double-A New Britain.

a Perdomo is the 17th player, the 12th pitcher, to be promoted to the Twins from Rochester. He is the 3rd player, the 2nd pitcher, to make it to the big leagues after starting the year with New Britain, joining outfielder Darin Mastroianni and righthander Lester Oliveros. Perdomo went 2-1 with 7 saves and a 0.92 ERA in 11 appearances with the Red Wings after his June 26 transfer from New Britain.

a Turpen is the 16th player, the 11th pitcher, to be promoted to the Red Wings from New Britain. He went 3-2 with 5 saves and a 4.25 ERA in 33 games with the Rock Cats.

JULY HEAT: The Red Wings have lost 4 of their last 5 and 5 of their last 7, but they are still 15-9 in July. That's the 2nd-best record in the International League in that time. A list of the Top 5 clubs in July:

Rank Team Record

1. Columbus 16-8

2. 15-9

3. Indianapolis (Pirates) 15-10

4. Norfolk (Orioles) 13-9

5. Charlotte (White Sox) 13-10

a The Red Wings yesterday allowed a season-high 17 runs, a season-high 22 hits, and a season-high 4 home runs in a 17-9 loss vs. Syracuse. The 26 combined runs were the most in a Red Wings' game since Rochester and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre combined for 31 runs in 13 innings April 25, 2009 at Frontie r Field (a 17-14 Yankees' win). It was the highest run total in a 9-inning Red Wings' game since Rochester and Durham combined for 26 July 25, 2005 at Frontier Field (a 14-12 Red Wings ' win ).

ALMOST THERE: A victory tonight would give the Red Wings 53 to match their win total from all of last year. The 2011 club went 53-91 and it was 24 games under .500 at 41-65 at this point last season. The 2010 team was 28 games below .500 at 39-67 at this juncture and went on to finish only 49-95.

a Rochester is off to its best 106-game start since the 2007 squad was 57-49.

A FUN RIDE: The Red Wings are 32-24 since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28. Going back further, Rochester is 38-31 beginning May 15. The Wings are also 43-38 beginning May 3, playing better than .500 baseball for more than half the season.

HAIL TO THE CHIEFS: With last night's setback, Syracuse clinched the season series by improving to 9-3 with 4 games to go. It is the Chiefs' 3rd straight season series win against the Red Wings after going 13-3 in 2010 and 9-7 in 2011. Rochester last beat Syracuse in a season series in 2009, when it went 9-7.

HOMER TIME: The Red Wings had hit just 2 home runs in their last 8 games at Frontier Field until Chris Parmelee matched that effort himself with 2 blasts yesterday vs. Syracuse. It was the 3rd multi-homer game of his pro career and the Red Wings' 5th such effort of 2012. Michael Hollimon (May 29 at Charlotte), Matt Carson (June 17 at Louisville), and Danny Valencia (June 23 vs. Charlotte and June 20 vs. Empire State) also accomplished the feat.

a Rochester has hit 39 homers along Morrie Silver Way compared to 25 on the road. Do note, however, the 39 long balls have come in 61 games at Frontier while the 25 on the road have come in just 45 contests.

IMPREFECT TEN: The Red Wings last night allowed 10 or more runs in a game for the 12th time. Only Gwinnett (19) and Durham (13) have in the IL have allowed 10 or more in a game on more occasions.

a For what it's worth, Rochester is 4-7 in games that follow those 10-run contests. All 4 wins, however, have come in the last 5 follow-up games. Red Wings' pitchers haven't allowed more than 6 runs in any of those follow-up affairs.

CUP RUNNETH OVER: The Red Wings and Chiefs are in the midst of a hotly-contested battle for the Thruway Series Cup presented by Hillside Family of Agencies, the 3-team race for the best record in western New York among Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. Here are the current standings, which reflect only games against one another:

Rank Team Record Winning %

1. Buffalo 12-7 .632

2. Syracuse 12-10 .545

3. Rochester 7-14 .333
