Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Following the rain out last night, The IronPigs (56-49) play Game Three of a four-game series against the second-place Norfolk Tides (54-52) at Coca-Cola Park... With a 3-2 loss Wednesday, the Pigs have fallen to 1-5 on this seven-game homestand and have now dropped seven of their last nine games. The Pigs have gone just 6-14 in their last 20 games --- going from a season-high 3.0-games up to 2.5-games back in the North... The Tides -- Baltimore's top affiliate -- have still gone just 3-6 in their last nine affairs after an 11-3 span from June 30-July 16. Since starting the season at 21-31, the Tides have gone 33-21 (.611) since May 30.
In Game One, RHP Tyler Cloyd (9-1, 2.11) will start for LHV against RHP Jake Arrieta (2-0, 3.18).
In Game Two, RHP Scott Elarton (5-8, 5.45) will start for LHV against RHP Tim Bascom (0-0, 6.00; 5-5, 4.25 in AA).
Tonight is Umbrella Night, presented by The Morning Call; & Fireworks, presented by Greenstar Recycling. First-pitch for Game One is at 6:05 p.m.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE?:
The Pigs will play in their 6th doubleheader this season -- entering with a record of 6-4 in DH games in 2012 (2-0 in nine-inning DH games)... The Pigs split their last DH on 7/8 @ ROC... But swept their last DH at CCP (a "day-night" DH on 7/1 vs. PAW) -- marking their fourth all-time DH sweep in 23 tries and their first since 9/4/09 vs. BUF (they had none in their prior 13 DH)... LHV had split its prior 3 DH this season... Last season, the Pigs managed just a 5-9 record in DH and are 19-29 all-time (2-2 in "Day-Night" DH games).
* This is also NOR's 6th DH, and the Tides, too, are 6-4... They had a sweep 6/2 vs. SWB and have split their other 4 DH.
