(WOODBRIDGE, VA) - Lynchburg right Gus Schlosser got his fourth win in as many starts against the Potomac Nationals tossing a five-hit shutout in a 5-0 Hillcats win. The P-Nats have lost six of seven games at City Stadium this season.

The P-Nats got their best chance to score against Schlosser in the first inning with Adrian Sanchez doubling and stealing third base with one out. But a strikeout of Ricky Hague and a David Freitas groundout ended the Potomac threat in the first. It would be the only time Potomac got a runner to third in the contest.

The Hillcats struck against Potomac lefty Robbie Ray in the second inning using back-to-back hits with one out. Braeden Schlehuber singled and scored on a Michael Spina double to left to give Lynchburg a 1-0 lead.

The Nationals yielded three more runs in the third inning all with two outs. Adam Milligan hit an RBI double to increase the Lynchburg advantage to 2-0. The next batter Edward Salcedo hit a single to left scoring Milligan to make it 3-0 in favor of Lynchburg. Spina had his second RBI hit in as many innings: a single scoring Salcedo to extend the lead to 4-0.

Ray (3-7) tossed five innings taking the loss giving up four earned runs. He struck out four batters while walking just one.

Meanwhile Schlosser continued to dominate Potomac hitters. After retiring 12 straight batters from the first to fourth inning, he yielded a single in the fifth that was erased by a double play. The Nationals got two runners on with one out in the sixth but a 1-6-3 double play ended that threat.

The Hillcats added their fifth and final run on a two-out single by Milligan off of reliever Adam Carr in the seventh.

Schlosser (11-4) retired 11 of the final 12 batters to finish off his first complete game and first shutout of his professional career. His 11 wins lead the Carolina League. Against the Nationals, Schlosser is 4-0 in four starts with a 1.13 ERA. Over 32 innings, he's given up just 22 base runners: 19 hits and five walks.

It was the 11th game the Nationals have been shutout this year which is the second most of any Carolina League team. They fall to a MiLB worst 12-35 on the road as well.

Tomorrow the P-Nats send LHP Matt Grace (5-9, 5.82) to the mound to face RHP Cody Martin (10-6, 3.28) of the Hillcats. The Nationals return home for a three-game set with the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday, July 31st.
