THE HILLCATS: The Hillcats beat the Carolina Mudcats 7-4 yesterday...Lynchburg scored two runs in the first inning without a hit...Mudcats starter, RHP Michael Goodnight walked three batters in the first frame, committed an error, and had another error made by his defense...The Hillcats led the rest of the game despite allowing Carolina to score three runs in the eighth inning and bring the go-ahead run to plate in their final two at-bats...LF Adam Milligan hit a solo home run in the game, his 10th of the season...The Hillcats are now 15-15 in the second half and are tied for first place in the Northern Division with the Potomac Nationals...
VS. POTOMAC: Lynchburg is 8-8 against the Nationals this year...The home team is 12-4 in the season series...The Nationals have won six of the last seven meetings, but all of those games were played at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, VA...The Hillcats lost three of four games last week at the 'Pfitz', including their worst loss of the season, 14-0 last Monday...
HOME SICK: The Hillcats begin a four-game homestand tonight after spending the last seven days on the road...The 'Cats went 2-5 on their recent trip, losing two of three in Carolina and three of four in Potomac...Lynchburg still hasn't won a road-series in the second half...They lost two of three in Wilmington June 28-30 and in Winston-Salem July 7-9...They split two games in Salem July 11-12 as part of a home and home four-game set...They are 5-10 on the road since the All-Star Break, after sweeping the Frederick Keys in Frederick in four games to end the first half...On the year they are 23-25 on the road...

TRY OUR NEW BREW: OF Dan Brewer went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base yesterday..He is now 3-for-8 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base in his frist two game with Lynchburg...Brewer was acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees last week...He started the season with Double-A Trenton where he was hitting .221 through May 22...He missed over seven weeks with an injured right hand before returning to action with the Gulf Coast League Yankees on July 10...Traded and assigned to Lynchburg July 20...Brewer was originally drafted by the Yankees in the eighth round in 2008 out of Bradley University where he was the first player to hit 20 or more homers and steal 40 or more bases in his career as a Bradley Brave...Played at four levels last season including 46 games with Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, where he hit .278...
SPIN-A NEW WEB: 1B Michael Spina went 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored yesterday...He is now 2-for-6 in his first two games with Lynchburg...Spina was released by the Oakland Athletics this year after hitting just .176 through 70 games with Double-A Midland...Spina was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 11th round in 2009...Hit .282 with 10 home runs and 75 RBI in 2011 with Midland and was a Mid-season All-Star...
RELIEVED TO BE IN THE PEN: RHP Ryan Weber made his return to the Hillcats bullpen Friday night tossing two and two-thirds scoreless innings without allowing a hit...He now owns a 2.13 ERA in nine Lynchburg appearances...Was just recalled from Low-A Rome where he posted a 1.98 ERA in five relief outings, but a 6.79 ERA in 11 starts...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Robbie Ray was selected in the 12th round of the 2010 draft by the Washington Nationals out of Brentwood (TN) High School...Was committed to the University of Arkansas, flipped to Vanderbilt, but ultimately signed for a reported $799,000...Pitched in just one inning for the Vermont Lake Monsters (NYP) after signing just before the deadline in 2010...Pitched a perfect inning...Started 2011 in Extended Spring Training before going to Low-A Hagerstown in May...Went 2-3 with a 3.13 ERA in 20 starts...Struck out 95 in 89 innings...Rated as the 17th-best prospect in the Washington organization prior to the 2012 season, down from 15th before 2011...Joined Potomac in May this season...He is 3-6 with a 5.13 ERA in 14 appearances, 13 starts...Started against Lynchburg on June 3...Shut out the 'Cats for eight innings, striking out nine...Pitched in relief last week behind MLB-rehabber RHP Chien-Ming Wang...Gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings...
