Cardinals Beat Naturals 4-1

July 21, 2012 - Texas League (TL) Springfield Cardinals

Springfield, MO - Springfield defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 4-1 thanks to a great pitching performance and timely hitting.

Audry Perez led the offense for the Cardinals with three RBIs. He hit a two-run home run to center field in the fourth, and added an RBI single in the eighth.

Springfield scored their other run in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Oscar Taveras. Paulo Orlando scored Northwest Arkansas' only run in the third inning on an RBI single by Rey Navarro.

Naturals' starter Ryan Dennick (5-4) lasted only four innings in his second double-A start of the season. He allowed three Springfield runs on four hits. The start was Dennick's first since May 15.

Springfield starter Seth Maness (8-1) pitched seven superb innings in the ballgame for the Cardinals. He gave up one run and six hits on exactly 100 pitches.

The young righty hasn't lost since June 17 and leads all Springfield starters with a 2.10 ERA and eight wins.

Eric Fornataro pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Jorge Rondon pitched a scoreless ninth for the save and victory.

Springfield will continue their four-game set tomorrow with NW Arkansas at 6:08pm. The Cardinals will have Scott McGregor on the mound against Sugar Ray Marimon of the Naturals.

Sunday is Pink in the Park at Hammons Field as 2,500 fans will receive a Pink Cardinals Tote Bag thanks to Rick's Automotive. The Cardinals will also be wearing Pink Cardinals jerseys that will be available for auction to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. Every Sunday is a Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Sunday where all kids will receive a free ice cream treat on the Prime Patio before the game. Kids can also run the bases after the game.
