Gaby Sanchez Launches 3-Run Homer in Z's Win

DES MOINES, Iowa - Gaby Sanchez hammered a three run fourth inning home run to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs to a 7-2 win over the Iowa Cubs.

Brad Hand pitched six strong innings allowed two runs on six hits and improved to 8-4 on the season. Hand allowed a pair of runs in the first inning and then went on a stretch of retiring 13 in a row. Hand has won four of his last five starts.

The Zephyrs scored a first inning run with a Kevin Mattison lead-off double and he came around to score after a pair of groundouts.

Iowa scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. The Zephyrs picked up a pair of hits in the fourth and Sanchez homered over the left field wall to give New Orleans a 4-2 lead.

The Zephyrs picked up three more runs in the sixth inning. New Orleans received a two out RBI single from Nick Green and and a two RBI single from Humberto Quintero. Iowa starter Chris Volstad allowed seven runs in the loss.

Mike Cervenak picked up three hits in four at bats. The Zephyrs have won four of their last five games.

Game Notes - The Z's have hit a league leading 29 home runs in 14 games in July. The Zephyrs added pitcher Bobby Bramhall from Class AA Jacksonville and placed catcher Cole Armstrong on DL. The Z's scored first in 24 of their last 28 games. The Zephyrs have 48 quality starts this season, the team finished with 47 in 2011.
