Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders are proud to continue their partnership with the Canadian Blood Services. The CBS will be on location at McMahon Stadium on Monday, July 16 in the Clubhouse players' lounge.
Stampeders player representative Keon Raymond - along with his Stamps teammates - will be on hand to learn 'What's Your Type?' and have their blood type tested by CBS staff. Blood type testing is a minute-long process and plays a critical role in saving lives.
Monday's event is a precursor to the Canadian Blood Services acting as community sponsor on Thursday, July 19 when the Stampeders take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium. CBS volunteers will be patrolling the stadium grounds, signing up potential donors and providing fans with information on how to donate. Stampeders players and staff have donated throughout the year as members of the 'Partners For Life' program and are looking to their fans to do the same.
Summer months for blood donations are slow so CBS and the Stampeders encourage all fans to donate. In August, Canadian Blood Services needs to collect 6,500 donations in Southern Alberta. Fifty-two per cent of all Canadians have needed or know someone who has needed blood or blood products for surgery or medical treatment. Donating is simple and quick, taking an average of one hour from registration to exit.
"Being part of the Canadian Blood Services family has provided me a wealth of perspective," says Raymond. "It would take one donation from each of my teammates to save the life of just one car accident victim. Donating blood matters."
