More Heartbreak in Fargo as RedHawks Win in 10July 11, 2012 - American Association (AA) Kansas City T-Bones
Luke Irvine (1-0) started for KC and pitched tremendously. The right-hander from Liberty, Mo., had a no-hitter going through four innings and pitched seven total frames of shutout baseball, allowing only three hits while striking out six. He dropped his ERA to 2.76 but ended up with a no-decision.
Enrique Cruz got things started for the T-Bones with an RBI single in the second. Then, in the sixth, Devin Goodwin launched his eighth homer of the season, a two-run shot to left-center, giving KC a 3-0 lead.
The lead ballooned to 5-0 in the seventh as Hunter Mense homered to right, his second, and Justin Bass lined an RBI single to the outfield, driving home Bubby Williams.
Fargo-Moorhead started down the long road back in the eighth. KC brought in right-hander Matt Mitchell, and the RedHawks greeted him rudely with two singles followed by a three-run home run to right by Nic Jackson, his third of the series and seventh of the season. Eric Campbell followed with a single to center, chasing Mitchell. The T-Bones brought in left-hander Steve Kent who promptly ended the inning by retiring three straight, including two strike outs.
Kansas City went to the bottom of the ninth holding a 5-3 lead. With two outs, Fargo-Moorhead came up with back-to-back-to-back base hits, including an RBI single by Jackson and a game-tying RBI double by Campbell.
After a scoreless top of the 10th for KC, Fargo-Moorhead won it in the bottom half. With two outs and Ryan Delgado on third, Carlo Cota swung and missed on a breaking ball in the dirt for the third strike. Cota took off for first, and T-Bones catcher Bubby Williams, trying to throw to first to retire Cota and end the inning, threw wildly. Delgado scored from third for the game-winning run.
Next up for Kansas City (27-25) is a two-game road trip to Wichita, beginning Wednesday night at 7:05. The game can be heard on the KMBZ Business Channel (1660 AM) or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
