July 9, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Forest City Owls News Release

Thomasville, NC- Dykota Spiess hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot over the right-field wall to give Forest City a 2-1 lead in the 12th inning against Thomasville on Monday. Unfortunately, the Hi-Toms rallied back and DeSean Anderson handed the Owls their fourth straight loss with a bases loaded, two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning. Carson Herndon retired the first two batters of the 12th before giving up a pair of base hits and a hit batter, prior to Anderson's game-winning hit.

The game quickly evolved into a pitcher's duel with the Owls' Ryan Hander and the Hi-Toms' Michael Suk going toe-to-toe from the start. Both allowed just one run over seven innings of work. Hander gave up three hits and a walk, with a season-high seven strikeouts. Suk was almost as good with four hits and three walks surrendered. Suk also struck out seven.

Forest City's first run came on a two-out walk and a single in the 3rd inning. Suk then threw a passed ball and a wild pitch, allowing Gunnar Heidt to score. Thomasville answered back in the bottom of the 4th inning. Kyle Brandenburg doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on DJ Long's base hit. Brandenburg scored the tying run when Greg Harrison grounded out.
