Buccaneers Off-Season UpdateJuly 9, 2012 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Des Moines Buccaneers
Urbandale (IA) The ice is melted but there is still a flurry of activity at Buccaneer Arena as the Des Moines Buccaneers continue their various preparations for the 2012-2013 season. With the regular season opener 12 weeks away and the start of training camp even earlier the organization is taking steps to ensure a better on-ice product and continued improvements to the fan experience. From procurement of more players to lathering a fresh coat of paint, the mindset is moving forward towards opening day.
Season Ticket Sales
Season tickets remain on sale for 2012-2013 with a variety of seating options to choose from. Though the early bird discount expired at the end of June season tickets still remain a great deal for anyone from fans to business owners. For fans, season tickets are a great way to feel a connection and bond as they follow the team through all the highs and lows of a season. Plus, sitting in the same location each game provides a great chance to meet others seated nearby and develop friendships.
For business owners, season tickets are a prestigious gift to hand to employees or customers. Purchase ice-level seats for even more impact when looking to impress a possible client.
Fan Experience Improvements
The Buccaneers continue to make adjustments, tweaks and repair anything that improves the fan experience inside Buccaneer Arena. Fans who attended the tryout camp in June noticed a fresh coat of paint in the concourse area and come September, fans will notice a fresh layer of paint in the seating area. Workers have already begun prep work on the seating area for the new paint.
Plans are also in place for updates to the concession stand including new modernized menu boards and the possibility of some new food and beverage options.
Content upgrades continue to the video board with new graphics, montages, commercials and fan interaction games.
Popular Promotion Return
The Buccaneers and Animal Rescue League have started preparations on the return of the popular Doxie Dash with details on the 2012-2013 version to be announced in the coming weeks. Fans will also notice the continuation of various beverage discount nights, post-game skates with the players and jersey auctions along with new promotions that will be announced closer to the season.
Boosters Represent Team in Parades
Continuing a long-standing tradition the Des Moines Buccaneers' booster club represented the organization in parades on July 4th. Braving triple-digit heat about a dozen booster members rode in a float and also walked in both the Urbandale and Windsor Height's parades. Booster members handed out beads and player buttons while also blaring various arena-rock tunes from the back of a float donated by Star Equipment.
Winger also made an appearance in both and while other mascots hopped in trucks for a ride, Winger showed he wasn't just a bird for cool rinks but instead one with more determination. He shook off the free rides in lieu of walking the entire distance of both parades.
Hall of Fame Committee Begins Work
The Des Moines Buccaneers are bringing back the team's dormant Hall of Fame this season and the volunteer committee will begin working towards setting it up this week. About a dozen fans have offered their assistance in being a part of the committee which will assume the task of building the base of the Hall of Fame from the ground up. This includes the nomination and selection process, the new Hall of Fame/Reunion weekend and designing and procuring a permanent display inside the arena.
Buccaneer mascot Winger has already had his Saturdays loaded with public events and that trend will continue throughout the summer. After going into retirement a few years ago and stepping aside to allow Bucky to go out to events, Winger has returned this season to reprise his goodwill ambassadorship to fans in the region.
In June, Winger attended the Ovarian Cancer Research Walk, the Heart Association Walk and the Rescue Dog K9 Run with more events planned in July.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are preparing for their 33rd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League beginning in the Fall of 2012. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
