Two out Magic Helps Captains Win 6-1

Lake County Captains News Release


(Comstock Park, MI) - The Lake County Captains (7-6, 38-44) defeated to the West Michigan Whitecaps (7-6, 43-40) by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday Night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Lake County added an insurance run in the eighth inning. With two outs, Jose Ramirez hit a hustle double (his third hit of the game). The next pitch was low and in the dirt and Ramirez took off for third base and forced a bad throw by Gabriel Purroy the Whitecaps Catcher and was able to score on the error. The Final score was 6-1 Captains.

Lake County got on the board first. In the second inning, with two outs (a common theme for the Captains) Todd Hankins, Zach MacPhee and Jose Ramirez all singled and a run scored and the Captains led the game 1-0. Lake County plated two more in the third inning. Again with two outs, Alex Monsalve singled and Jerrud Sabourin doubled him home. Sabourin scored himself on a single by Bryson Myles and the Score was 3-0 Captains headed to the fourth inning.

In the fifth the Captains scored a run with two outs. Jordan Smith singled to center and Monsalve hit his first triple of the year to left field and it was 4-0 Captains. Lake County added on in the fifth. This time with only one out Todd Hankins singled and stole second and third base and scored on a single by MacPhee. Lake County led 5-0.

The Whitecaps scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aaron Westlake doubled to start the rally and then Jason Krizan doubled him home and at the time the score was 5-1 Lake County.

RHP Joe Colon (7-8) took to the mound for Lake County and pitched five innings allowing five hits and no runs. Colon walked three and fanned six. Colon earned the win. Rob Nixon pitched in relief of Colon and went three innings; he allowed three hits and one earned run. Antwonie Hubbard entered in the ninth for Lake County and worked a perfect ninth inning.

RHP Tommy Collier (6-6) took the mound for West Michigan and just lasted three innings. Collier took the loss. Collier allowed six hits, three earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. The bullpen for West Michigan allowed ten hits and four earned runs.

Lake County will continue the road trip on Thursday night in Comstock Park, Michigan against the Whitecaps. The game is set to start at 7:00 PM. Lake County will send RHP Cody Anderson (4-4, 3.11) to the mound to start the game and West Michigan will send RHP Marcelo Carreno (3-5, 3.62) to the mound to counter Anderson.
