Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, July 4, 2012) - The Colorado Rapids announced on Wednesday that the team will wear HelpColoradoNow.org and a Colorado state flag on their jerseys in front of a capacity crowd at tonight's match, in an effort to help support fundraising efforts relating to the devastating wildfires throughout the state. HelpColoradoNow.org is a website that provides information on how to help Coloradans in need, whether through donations of money or materials, or by volunteering.
"The wildfires throughout our state have caused unprecedented damage, and we all have to do our part to help support those affected," said Colorado Rapids President Tim Hinchey. "Putting HelpColoradoNow.org on the front of our jerseys is the most visible and effective way we can drive awareness and donations to organizations that are providing assistance in this time of need."
HelpColoradoNow.org is a partnership between the Colorado Division of Emergency Management and the Colorado Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, and brings together government agencies and non-profit organizations to assist communities affected by disasters. It includes links to various organizations accepting donations of money and materials in their response to the wildfires, as well as information on volunteering to help the state recover from these disasters.
The Rapids' special, game-worn jerseys from tonight's match, featuring HelpColoradoNow.org and the Colorado state flag, will be auctioned off to the public with proceeds benefitting organizations supporting disaster relief. In addition to supporting HelpColoradoNow.org, the Rapids continue to raise money for charitable organizations, with donations being accepted at Wednesday's match for the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation; Kroenke Sports Charities will match up to $10,000 of all funds raised.
Tonight, the Rapids and Commerce City will host the 17th Annual 4thFest, an evening of activities, music, and soccer, presented by Westerra Credit Union. The 4thFest will feature a performance by That Eighties Band, karaoke, the Salida Circus, a zip line, arts and crafts, and more, with the event culminating in a fireworks display after the Rapids match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Standing room only tickets are still available at 303-825-GOAL or by visiting the box office at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. More information on 4thFest can be found at www.4thFestColorado.com.
