Navarro Delivers Game-Winner in Extras

Raul Navarro hit a walk-off RBI single in the tenth inning Monday and the South Bend Silver Hawks beat the Lansing Lugnuts 6-5 in front of 4,011 fans at Coveleski Stadium. The Silver Hawks (41-40, 6-5) earned their seventh walk-off win of the season and evened the three-game series at one game apiece.

Kable Hogben (3-2) earned the win for South Bend, tossing a scoreless tenth inning. Righty Brandon Berl (2-4) got saddled with the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits, including the game-winner.

With the Silver Hawks leading 5-2 in the ninth inning, Kevin Pillar hit a two-out, game-tying three-run home run off of right-hander Jake Barrett. It was Barrett's first blown save in three opportunities.

Eric Groff started the tenth-inning rally with an opposite field double to right-center. Kerry Jenkins subsequently sacrificed Groff to third. Pinch-hitter Marc Bourgeois was walked intentionally before Navarro's game-ender.

Kerry Jenkins finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1. Jenkins hit his first career Silver Hawks long ball and his first professional homer since June of last season.

Right-hander Tyler Green started for South Bend and allowed two earned runs on six hits over a career-high six innings. The right-hander walked two and fanned four. Lefty David Rollins started for Lansing and hurled three scoreless innings with five walks and two strikeouts.

With the game tied 2-2, the Silver Hawks scored three runs in the seventh inning. Ryan Court hit a two-run double off the centerfield wall and Kerry Jenkins notched an RBI single.

Court, Groff and Navarro each recorded two hits for the Silver Hawks.

Willy Paredes tossed a scoreless seventh inning out of the Silver Hawks bullpen; Kaleb Fleck followed with a perfect eighth inning.

The Silver Hawks are 7-4 in extra innings this season.

The Silver Hawks and Lugnuts will play the rubber match Tuesday at Coveleski Stadium. J.R. Bradley (5-4, 4.61) makes the start for South Bend and he will be opposed by right-hander Noah Syndergaard (4-2, 3.35). First pitch is slated for 7:35 p.m. EST.
