
Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency Advance to USSDA Finals Week

VANCOUVER, BC - After winning Group 2 at the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) playoffs Round of 32, Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency have advanced to USSDA Finals Week from July 16-23 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas - home of Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo. The U-18 Residency team will now compete among the final eight teams in the U-17/18 age bracket as they seek to claim the USSDA national championship.
Whitecaps FC U-18 have been placed in Group 1 at Finals Week alongside fellow first stage group winners North Carolina Fusion, De Anza Force, and Colorado Rapids. Group 2 will consist of FC Dallas, Chivas USA, Solar Chelsea SC, and Baltimore Bays Chelsea.
The U-16 Residency team nearly advanced as well after tying for top spot in Group 3, but were eliminated by virtue of goal differential.
Whitecaps FC U-18 return to training at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex for the next two weeks before departing to USSDA Finals Week. For the full training schedule, as well as interview requests, images and other information, please contact the Whitecaps FC communications department.
USSDA PLAYOFFS ROUND OF 32 RECAP
With West Conference, Northwest division titles already in hand for both Whitecaps FC Residency sides in their first ever year in the USSDA - the premier academy league in North America - the "ËCaps Residency squads travelled to Frisco, Texas, for the 2012 USSDA playoffs Round of 32.
U-18
Game 1 vs. Pateadores Report Game 2 vs. Weston FC Report Game 3 vs. Texans SC Houston Report
The U-18 Residency team had a tough start in Group 2, but rebounded to claim top spot on the final day. In their first match, the "ËCaps suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to defending U-17/18 national champions Pateadores.
In their next match, the Blue and White responded with a strong 4-0 win against Weston FC to set up a dramatic final day.
Needing a win and some help from Weston FC, the "ËCaps earned a 2-0 win against Texans SC Houston and got the result they needed when Weston FC defeated Pateadores 4-0, sending Whitecaps FC to their first ever USSDA Finals Week.
U-16
Game 1 vs FC Greater Boston Report Game 2 vs.Charlotte Soccer Academy Report Game 3 vs. South Carolina United Battery Report
The U-16 squad began their campaign well in Group 3, earning a hard fought 2-1 win against FC Greater Boston in their opener.
Their next match saw a 0-0 draw with Charlotte Soccer Academy, making for a tense final day in which they went in level on four points with Charlotte for top spot.
Despite a 3-2 win against South Carolina United Battery, the "ËCaps bowed out on goal differential when Charlotte defeated FC Greater Boston 2-0. Although they did not advance, the U-16 team can look back on a fantastic first season in the USSDA.
