Barons Fall to Pensacola in Extra Innings

Birmingham, AL - The Barons dropped their fourth game in a row to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 4-3 in ten innings Sunday afternoon in front of 1,489 fans at Regions Park.

After the Wahoos scored a run in the first on a sacrifice fly by Joel Guzman, the Barons tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as J.C. Sulbaran walked Tyler Saladino with the bases loaded to force in Jose Martinez.

The Wahoos would retake the lead in the third on an RBI double by Joel Guzman and a run scoring single by David Vidal, chasing starter Brandon Kloess from the game.

The Barons would come back to tie the game in the sixth on back-to-back solo home runs by Tyler Saladino and Seth Loman. The home run was the second for Saladino while Loman's blast tied him with Andy Wilkins for the team lead with eight homers. The back-to-back shots were the first for the Barons since 2009.

The game would remain tied into extra innings. In the 10th , Didi Gregorius dribbled a two-out single under the diving glove of Saladino at shortstop, scoring Mark Fleury to give the Wahoos a 4-3 lead.

Kyle Bellamy (0-1, 9.00) took the loss in his first outing as a Baron, allowing Gregorious' single in the 10th . The win went to Drew Hayes (1-2, 4.28) while Justin Freeman tossed a perfect 10th for his second save of the year.

Jose Martinez and Corey Smith each finished with three hits for the Barons who fell to 29-35 while Pensacola improved to 30-34 and 7-2 against the Barons on the year. The Barons will look to salvage the series finale tomorrow night as Matt Wickswat (1-4,13.32) takes the hill against Daniel Corcino (2-4, 3.77). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
