
Suns Take Two from Generals on Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. (JUNE 10, 2012) - The Jackson Generals had been shutout only twice in 2012 prior to Sunday. Jacksonville went on to blank the Generals in the suspended game from Saturday, 7-0 and win the regularly scheduled game for Sunday, 9-0. The Suns win the series taking three out of four. Despite the two losses, the Generals remain 4 1/2 games up in the division at 38-26, with a magic number at three.
Game 1: Suns 7, Generals 0
The Generals trailed 4-0 when Saturday's game was suspended and when the game resumed Sunday afternoon after a 1 hour 20 minute rain delay, the Suns scored two runs fast. In the bottom of the fourth, Jacksonville scored on a 2-RBI double by Ryan Patterson.
The Suns made it 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double from Chris Gutierrez.
Steve Garrison (3-3) suffered the loss for Jackson and allowed 6 runs (4ER) on 7 hits in 3.1 innings pitched. Leury Bonilla led the Generals at the plate by finishing 2-for-3.

In the regularly scheduled game for Sunday, the Suns continued their onslaught of the Generals scoring twice in the first inning and then scoring three in the third on a 3-run home run by Curt Smith. The Suns jumped out to a 5-0 advantage
Jacksonville pushed three more runs across in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. The Suns scored two on an RBI triple by Kyle Skipworth and another on RBI double by Kyle Jensen. The Suns capped the scoring with a run in the sixth on a run scoring single from Ryan Patterson.
Taylor Stanton (1-2) suffered the loss for Jackson, allowing 8 runs (7ER) on 9 hits in 4.0 innings. Stanton struck out 3 and walked 3. Gabriel Noriega was 2-for-2 for the Generals in the losing effort.
The Generals and Suns will complete the five-game series on Monday night at the Baseball Grounds, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT. RHP Brandon Maurer (4-1, 3.80) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Matthew Neil (1-0, 4.37) for Jacksonville.
