Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits took their first lead in four games in the eighth inning Saturday night, when shortstop Matt Williams hit a one-out, go-ahead RBI double to start a four-run inning and help the River Bandits to a 6-3 road victory over the Burlington Bees at Community Field.

After losing the first three games of the road trip without getting a lead Wednesday through Friday at Kane County, Quad Cities (30-32) rallied in a 2-2 game in the eighth inning. River Bandits third baseman Neal Pritchard was hit by a pitch with one out and scored the go-ahead run from first base on Williams' double to center field. A groundout by center fielder Nick Martini moved Williams to third base with two outs. Williams then scored on an error by Bees third baseman Wade Kirkland on a ball hit by left fielder Colin Walsh. That ended the night of left-hander Jeff Urlaub (4-4), who was charged with three runs - one earned - on one hit in one inning of work.

Designated hitter Tyler Rahmatulla greeted right-hander Drew Tyson with an RBI triple to center field, and catcher Juan Castillo capped the four-run inning with an RBI single to left field that made it 6-2.

Burlington (27-34) scored a run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by shortstop Sean Jamieson against left-hander Bob Revesz. Right-hander Heath Wyatt entered with one out and struck out a batter before allowing a walk to load the bases. Wyatt then got left fielder Eliezer Mesa to ground into a force out at third base for the final out, giving Wyatt his eighth save in 11 chances.

River Bandits left-hander Hector Hernandez pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four batters while walking six - the most in a single game by a Quad Cities pitcher this season. With one out in the first inning, Hernandez walked second baseman Chih-Fang Pan and allowed a two-run home run to first baseman B.A. Vollmuth, who hit his sixth of the season and second against the River Bandits.

Quad Cities scored once in the top of the second inning. Rahmatulla hit a leadoff single to right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Castillo. Second baseman Luis Mateo then singled to right to drive in Rahmatulla. But the rally ended abruptly when first baseman David Medina grounded into an inning-ending double play against right-hander Max Perlman, who made his first start for Burlington. Perlman allowed just three hits and an earned run while walking one batter and striking out two in a five-inning no-decision.

With his team down 2-1, Hernandez lasted until a sixth-inning, two-out walk to designated hitter Royce Consigli that loaded the bases. Left-hander Danny Miranda (4-3) came on to strike out Bees center fielder Aaron Shipman and keep the River Bandits within 2-1. Miranda went on to pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three batters. The River Bandits tied the game against Bees right-hander Jose Macias in the top of the seventh, when Walsh hit a leadoff double and scored on an RBI single by Castillo.

The River Bandits and Bees play the second game of the series at 2 p.m. Sunday in Burlington. River Bandits right-hander Robert Stock (3-0) will make his second start of the season against Bees right-hander Seth Frankoff (1-4).
