Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Mark Cohoon allowed one run over seven innings to lead the B-Mets past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats by a 6-1 score Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets compiled two three-run innings and went 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position to snap a three-game losing streak.
After three scoreless innings, the Fisher Cats scratched out their only run of the game in the top of the fourth. Sean Ochinko doubled to left to start the inning and scored on Brian Bocock's single to center. It was the only blemish for Cohoon on the night.
The B-Mets had a quick rebuttal and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth, pounding out three consecutive singles against spot starter Fernando Hernandez. Raul Reyes, on base after a fielder's choice, scored Binghamton's first run on a single from Travis Ozga. Juan Lagares plated another run with a single to the right side. Reese Havens capped the three-run inning with a sac fly to center.
Binghamton tacked on three more in the sixth against reliever Sam Dyson. Jefry Marte reached to start the frame on a fielding error by second baseman Ryan Goins. Following a walk to Ozga, Lagares ripped an RBI single to right and Havens singled to load the bases. After Juan Centeno bounced into a run-scoring double play, Pedro Zapata legged out an infield single to plate a run, giving the B-Mets a 6-1 lead.
The cushion was more than enough for Cohoon (3-5) to earn his first win in the month of May. After allowing a run in the fourth, the lefty tossed three scoreless innings to cap his night. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out two while matching a season-high with seven innings. Robert Carson worked around a hit and two walks to post two scoreless innings to cap the win. Hernandez (0-2) suffered his second loss.
The B-Mets (23-25) complete their Memorial Day Weekend series against the Fisher Cats tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 PM. RHP Collin McHugh takes the ball against RHP Deck McGuire. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 12:50 PM on ESPN 1360 WYOS.
