San Jose Giants News Release

STOCKTON - The San Jose Giants were unable to secure their first road series sweep of the season as the Stockton Ports rolled to a 15-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark. Stockton overcame a 3-1 deficit scoring seven times in the sixth inning to take the lead before adding three runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth. San Jose suffered their worst margin of defeat of the year and allowed a season-high in runs.

Ryan Lollis (2-for-5, HR, RBI) homered while extending his hit streak to 11 games to lead the Giants offensively.

Taylor Rogers started on the mound for San Jose and allowed just one run over the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. A.J. Kirby-Jones started the inning with a line drive to center that bounced under the glove of the diving Chris Lofton. Kirby- Jones raced into third with a triple and then immediately scored when the next batter, Beau Taylor, doubled into the left field corner. Rogers then issued a walk to Max Stassi before Josh Whitaker fanned for the first out of the inning. Michael Gilmartin was up next and he blasted a double to the right center field gap plating both Taylor and Stassi to give the Ports their first lead of the day at 4-3.

After the go-ahead hit, Stephen Harrold (0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO) was summoned from the bullpen, but he promptly walked Nino Leyja before uncorking a wild pitch to advance the runners to second and third. Dusty Robinson was then intentionally walked to load the bases bringing Chad Oberacker to the plate. Phil McCormick (2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) was brought into pitch, but an 0-2 offering to Oberacker was hammered over the fence in right center field for a grand slam. The home run extended the Stockton lead to 8-3. The Ports sent 10 batters to the plate during the bottom of the sixth scoring seven runs on four hits.

Stockton kept the pressure on in the bottom of the seventh against McCormick as Taylor led off with a double before Stassi delivered an RBI single. After Whitaker singled, Gilmartin lined a two-run single to right making the score 11-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Ports roughed up Edward Concepcion (2/3 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) for four runs to further extend their lead. Miles Head started the inning with a double before consecutive walks to Kirby-Jones and Taylor loaded the bases with none out. Stassi followed with a single to left bringing home two more runs. Two batters later, Gilmartin grounded out to plate another run before Leyja blooped a single into shallow center off of new pitcher Tyler LaTorre (1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO) to score Stockton's 15th and final run of the game. LaTorre started the game at catcher for the Giants, but was moved to the pitcher's mound with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Ports starting pitcher Blake Treinen (4-4) earned the win after tossing six innings with three runs (all earned) and five hits allowed. He walked two and struck out six.

San Jose jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Lofton started the game with a double off the wall, advanced to third on Lollis' single and scored when Adam Duvall grounded out.

Stockton tied the game in the bottom of the second against Rogers when Stassi led off with a double before scoring two batters later on Gilmartin's single.

Lollis put the Giants back in front with a one-out solo home run in the top of the third inning. San Jose extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth as LaTorre drew a one-out walk before back-to- back singles from Carter Jurica and Jarrett Parker loaded the bases. Bobby Haney then bounced into a fielder's choice to score LaTorre.

Rogers settled in for San Jose and did not allow a run in the third, fourth or fifth innings. He pitched around a leadoff single in the third, a one-out walk in fourth and then struck out the side in a perfect bottom of the fifth. Rogers (2-3) was ultimately saddled with the loss after he was charged with five runs (all earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out six.

The Giants managed only two hits and no runs over the last five innings.

Gilmartin (3-for-5, 2B, 6 RBI) and Oberacker (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) combined to drive home 10 Stockton runs.
