
JetHawks Hit Back-To-Back-To-Back Homers in Loss

LANCASTER, CA - The game looked to be out of hand in the bottom of the eighth. The JetHawks were down 12-3 in the final game of the three game series with the High Desert Mavericks. With three swings of the bat, the JetHawks were given hope.
George Springer, Adam Bailey and Domingo Santana went deep in consecutive at-bats against Mavericks reliever Jonathan Arias to bring Lancaster within six of the high-scoring Mavericks. Springer's home run extended his hitting streak to 13 games and Santana's was his second of the game.
In the end, the feat was not enough to bring the team back and the Mavericks went on to complete the sweep of with a
12-8 win on a hot and windy Tuesday afternoon at The Hangar.
The Mavericks scored six runs off California League Pitcher of the Week Tyson Perez. The right-hander, who had not allowed more than a run in each of his first three starts, gave up nine hits and three home runs. He suffered his first loss to fall to 3-1 on the season.
Relievers Brian Streilein and Kirk Clark each allowed three runs in relief of Perez.
The Mavericks achieved a few offensive feats of their own. Stefen Romero hit for the cycle going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI. Mickey Wiswall hit a grand slam in the eighth and finished the game with 5 RBI.
Brad Miller and Jack Marder each hit home runs for the Mavericks in a game that featured eight home runs, four for each team.
Ben Heath, Ben Orloff, and Enrique Hernandez each added RBI hits for the JetHawks.
Cameron Hobson (1-1) picked up his first win in his second start for the Mavs. He allowed seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts.
With the loss, the JetHawks (23-23) fell two games behind the Mavericks (25-21) in the South Division. High Desert outscored Lancaster 31-14 in the series and have now won eight of 10 games between the two clubs.
The JetHawks are off on Wednesday and will resume their six game home stand on Thursday night as they welcome the Inland Empire 66ers to The Hangar for the first of a three game series. Thursday is Cheers Buck Beers presented by Diamond Jim's Casino and Backwards Night.
