P-Nats Partner with U.S. Forest Service to Plant Trees

(WOODBRIDGE, VA) - The Potomac Nationals are proud to announce the break a bat/ plant a tree partnership with the United States Forest Service for the 2012 Season.

In an effort to give back to the environment the P-Nats and Forrest Service will plant a tree for each bat broken during a game at Pfitzner Stadium this year. The tree plantin g ceremony will take place after the season at the George Washington-Jefferson National Forest.

A partnership between Major League Baseball and the US Forest Service's Forest Products Lab in Madison, Wisconsin focused on making the game safer by determining why so many bats break during game play. Since the partnership began in 2008, there has been a 50 percent reduction in broken bats in ball games during the last three seasons.

This Friday, May 18th, will also be Forest Service Night at Pfitzner Stadium. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell will be in attendance throwing out a first pitch, as well as many other employees of the Forest Service. There will be Public Service Announcements to educate fans on Forest Service initiatives throughout the game.

Through the first 17 home games this season 18 bats have been broken during games at Pfitzner Stadium. This put the team on pace to plant 80 trees after the season. "We are glad to partner with the Forest Service for this promotion as part of our continuing effort to give back to the environment" said Potomac Nationals General Manager Josh Olerud.
