
Trio of Pirates to Sail with Tobs

WILSON, N.C. - Three members of the 2012 East Carolina baseball squad will suit up in the black and gold this summer at Historic Fleming Stadium as the club announced today the signing Chris Gosik, Bryan Bass and Tyler Bolton.
A native of Thornton, PA Gosik is in his junior season playing outfield for Billy Godwin's squad. Prior to his time in Greenville, the 6-8, 200-pounder was drafted in the 49th round of the 2009 MLB draft by the Philadelphia Phillies (1,487th overall pick) out of Malvern Prep School.
Additionally, he was a dual sport athlete playing baseball and hockey winning four letters in each sport. Currently, he is majoring in finance.
During the 2012 season, he has appeared in 15 games, starting three posting a .190 batting average (4-for-21) along with 4 RBIs.
Gosik will join his Pirate teammate, Bryan Bass, on a summer squad for the second consecutive season. Last summer the two were part of the Laconia Muskrats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).
Bass, a 5-8, 165-pound infielder is a native of Durham and a product of Northern Durham High School is also a junior at ECU, where is has started 19 games for Billy Godwin and has appeared in 38. So far in 2012, he sports a .183 average (13-for-71) with five RBIs.
During his time at Northern Durham, he was a duel sport athlete playing both baseball and football. In both his junior and senior campaigns on the diamond, he was named all-state, all-conference honors as well as team MVP and also participated in the State Games three times.
A management major, Bass, has a great baseball heritage as his father played baseball at Louisburg College and North Carolina State.
The final Pirate that will join the Tobs this summer is a 6-3 freshman right-hander. Tyler Bolton, who is out of Wake Forest and Kerr-Vance Academy where he was an 11-time letter winner for the Spartans playing baseball, basketball and soccer.
As a senior, he sent a school record for batting average (.604), home runs (18) and RBIs (68), additionally he hammered 13 doubles while striking out just once in 111 at bats. He was also outstanding on the mound going 8-2 and fanning 98 hitters while issuing just 16 walks with a microscopic 1.72 ERA.
At East Carolina, the right-hander has seen limited time working just one inning whiel allowing two earned runs.
He is majoring in business management with a minor in marketing.
"East Carolina has a storied baseball tradition and coach (Billy) Godwin does a great job with that program and his players. Anytime you can add players of this caliber to the roster, you know they are going to be a great addition your club." Tobs skipper, Jason Immekus said.
Wilson begins their 2012 season on Tuesday, May 29th when they welcome the Petersburg Generals to Historic Fleming Stadium. Tickets are still on sale for the 7:05 first pitch by calling the Tobs office at 291-8627.
The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 50 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
