Houston Dynamo FC News Release
The Houston Dynamo opened the new BBVA Compass Stadium in style, defeating D.C. United 1-0 on Saturday behind a beautiful goal from Brad Davis. The original Dynamo player took a pass from Andre Hainault in the middle of the field, turned a D.C. defender, and cracked a bending shot from 25 yards into the side of the net for the game winner.
With the win, Houston improves to 3-3-2 (11 points) on the year while gaining ground in the Eastern Conference on D.C. United (5-4-3, 18 points).
It was a fitting way to open the new downtown stadium, with Davis, the club's all-time leader in games, starts and assists, delivering the winning goal. It was Davis' 150th MLS start with the Dynamo and his 25th goal in all competitions with Houston, becoming the third player to reach 25.
After the Dynamo controlled the run of play but could not find the breakthrough goal, Davis, the four-time All-Star and MLS MVP runner-up in 2011, turned in a sensational goal. In the 67th minute, Davis received a pass from Andre Hainault 30 yards from goal, took two touches to turn past Dwayne De Rosario, and then cracked a bending shot that made it past D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who could only get a hand on it before it hit the net.
Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall celebrated his 27th birthday with his tenth career MLS shutout and his 25th win in all competitions with the Dynamo.
Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell started the match for his 200th career MLS appearance.
On a day filled with milestones, forward Brian Ching, who along with Davis is the only remaining original Dynamo player, made his 175th appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions.
Houston dominated the match with a 20-4 advantage in shots, 10-1 edge in shots on goal, and 56% of possession.
The Dynamo are perfect all-time against D.C. United in Houston, with a 6-0-1 home record.
The Dynamo return to the pitch on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for the first-ever night match at BBVA Compass Stadium as they face the Portland Timbers. The match can be seen on the Fox Sports Houston Plus. The match can be heard on SportsTalk 790 AM and La Ranchera 850 AM. - Next Match: Tuesday, May 15, 7:30 p.m. - Dynamo vs. Portland Timbers, BBVA Compass Stadium
