LYNCHBURG, VA - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, won their third straight Friday, capturing a series opening victory against the Lynchburg Hillcats, 7-3, at City Stadium.

Cafe Martinez led off the game with a single off the glove of the outstretched shortstop, Nick Ahmed. Jared Hoying then doubled off the wall in right to make it 1-0. Christian Villanueva and Tomas Telis then singled to make it 2-0 before Brett Nichols re-painted the rightfield foul line with a bounce down the stripe and into the corner, scoring two runs. Lynchburg got a run back with an Ahmed homer in the bottom of the first, but the Pelicans bats were not finished. Villanueva singled again in the third, scoring three batters later on an RBI double from Santiago Chirino to go ahead 5-1. Myrtle Beach added two more in the fifth with a leadoff double from Hoying and Villanueva getting hit by a pitch. They dup scored on a Chirino sac fly and Cookie Castillo RBI single.
