Everblades Take 3-1 Series Lead with 7-3 Win in Game 4May 3, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) Florida Everblades
Kalamazoo's offense put pressure on the Blades throughout the first period, but it would be Florida who got on the board first. David Rutherford intercepted a pass outside the Kalamazoo zone and outskated two defenders taking it to the net where he switched to the backhand and swung the puck around Wing's goalie Riley Gill giving the Blades a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes played.
Florida got its second goal of night three minutes into the second period after Cedric McNicoll found Charles Landry in the top of the slot. Landry fired a long range wrist shot that went high of Gill's glove and into the back of the net giving Florida a 2-0 lead.
The Everblades increased its lead to three, while taking advantage of a two- man advantage. David Fischer received a pass from McNicoll in the slot, and rifled a slapshot past Gill.
The game looked to be heading for another shutout, but the K-Wings got on the board taking advantage of their own powerplay opportunity. Dwight Helminen received the puck outside Florida's offensive zone. Helminen immediately split two Everblade defenders and brought the puck to the to of the crease, and wristed the puck low and past the blocker of Blades goaltender John Muse to pull the K-Wings within two after 40 minutes played.
The Blades increased their lead to three four minutes into the third period when Matt Marquardt one timed a cross-ice pass from the circle on the backside of Riley Gill for the goal. .
Less than a minute, later Brayden Irwin added a goal of his own when he received a pass from behind the net at the top of the crease. Irwin immediately flipped the puck high in the net to give Florida a 5-1 lead.
Kalamazoo fought back adding goals from both Archibald and Helminen. However, Florida answered and scored two goals of their own within 20 seconds of each other from both Rutherford and Mathieu Roy. The goals put the game out of reach for the K-Wings, as the Everblades take Game Four of the Eastern Conference Finals with a score of 7-3.
