Aces Season Ends with 3-1 Loss in Game 5

The Alaska Aces scene came to a close on Wednesday night at the hands of a 3-1 Game 5 loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers at Sullivan Arena. The Wranglers won the best-of-seven series 4-1 and won their second conference championship in franchise history. Alaska's Kelly Cup defense was stopped in the Conference Finals for the second time in as many attempts. The Aces scored first to take their first lead since Game 1 on a Dan Kissel slap shot from just inside the blue line on a power play at 5:22. But Vegas answered with a power play goal of their own. Eric Lampe continued his hot streak, scoring in the third straight game at 14:28 on a rebound to tie the score. Then at 18:22 Judd Blackwater also tallied for the third straight game on a rebound to make it 2-1 Wranglers after one period.

Gerald Coleman was sharp in the second period to keep the Aces in the game after getting outshot 12-4 in the frame. Neither team found the back of the net, and it remained 2-1 Wranglers heading into the third period.

The Aces held the Wranglers without a shot for almost the entire third period, but could not find the equalizer. On a late power play, with their goaltender pulled the Aces tried one last time to tie the game, but Vegas sealed the series with win a Josh Lunden goal from three-quarters down the ice at 19:57.

Gerald Coleman (5-5) suffered the loss, making 24 saves on 26 shots. Joe Fallon (6-1) earned the win, making 17 saves on 18 shots. The Aces went 1-4 on the power play, while the Wranglers went 1-3. The Aces were outshot by the Wranglers 27-18 in the game.
