Vause Named WHL Humanitarian of the Year

Swift Current, SK - The Western Hockey League announced at the 2012 WHL Awards that former Bronco captain, Taylor Vause, has been named to the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy - WHL Humanitarian of the Year Award.
Taylor has spent countless hours in and around the community during his tenure with the Broncos. He has spoken at various schools about living and playing in the Western Hockey League with diabetes, taken part in annual Bronco and Swift Current events, including Skate with the Broncos, Swift Current's Sports Week, monthly Read with the Bronco appearances and more.

After being diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago, Taylor made it a point to help create diabetes awareness and raise funds to find a cure. He has spoken at countless venues and participated in various walks over the years.
The Broncos leading scorer has become a perfect example of someone who never let an obstacle get in the way of pursuing his dream. He knows the positive impact that athletes with diabetes have left with him after providing him with moral support and he looks to provide others with the same support that he has received over the years.

Taylor took the time out of his hectic hockey schedule this past season to find a unique way to give back to Swift Current. He created a one of a kind themed jersey to commemorate the four Broncos who lost their lives in the tragic bus crash in 1986. The jersey was worn by all of the players and all proceeds from the jersey went directly to the Broncos Education Fund.

In 72 games played this past season the 5'10", 179 lbs. Calgary, AB product led the team in scoring with 83 points (37G, 46A). He also wrapped up his impressive 2011-12 campaign ranking 15th in the WHL in points.
The WHL Humanitarian of the Year Award recognizes the work players do to help and enhance the community they play in. Kyle Moir was the last Bronco to win this award in 2007.
