Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres had a strong start from Josh Geer, flawless relief from three pitchers and four two-out runs in their 5-1 win over Sacramento Friday. Geer rebounded after a shaky start in Tucson over the weekend and held the River Cats to one run in six innings of work. Cory Burns, Brad Boxberger and Brad Brach pitched an inning each without allowing a baserunner to close the game.

The Padres lineup received a boost with the addition of Yasmani Grandal, who hit a home run in his first plate appearance since April 9. Grandal had been on the disabled list with a strained hamstring. Sawyer Carroll hit his team leading third home run in the sixth inning and James Darnell went 2-for-5 with an RBI single. The Padres added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth, taking advantage of a Sacramento error and a wild pitch. Everth Cabrera and Anthony Contreras also had two hits each for the T-Pads.

Cabrera established a new Tucson Padres mark for stolen bases in a game, swiping four Friday night without being caught. He now has nine stolen bases this year and has not been caught stealing. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the 6-16 Padres.
