Aeros Fall in Bowie

Akron RubberDucks News Release

Bowie, MD - Three Bowie pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout of the Akron Aeros Monday night, winning the opener of a three-game series, 2-0, on a frigid night at Prince George's Stadium.

Baysox lefty Jacob Petit (3-0) went the first five innings, giving up just three hits, to earn his second win over the Aeros in the last week. Petit walked three and struck out three and escaped his only difficulty, which came in the second inning. With Aeros runners at first and second and no one out, Petit induced a double-play ball from Ryan Rohlinger and then struck out Thomas Neal to end the threat.

It was only last Tuesday when Petit worked the Aeros over with six innings of one-hit ball in a 4-2 Bowie win at Canal Park.

Bowie's Stuart Pomeranz, the older brother of one-time Indians prospect and current Rockies pitcher, Drew Pomeranz, followed with three scoreless innings before former Padres reliever Greg Burke tossed a perfect ninth for his first save.

It was the first shutout loss of the season for the Aeros (9-6), and snapped a two-game losing streak for the Baysox (7-11).

Aeros starter Eric Berger (0-3) pitched out of a jam in the first after he walked the bases loaded, but gave up a pair of runs in the fourth inning. After a lead-off double by Brandon Waring, Berger fanned back-to-back hitters, but Bowie catcher Caleb Joseph rolled a base it up the middle to score Waring. Ronnie Welty, called up from the high-A Frederick Keys, earlier in the day, followed with a triple to make it 2-0.

Bryan Price and Cody Allen each threw two scoreless innings of relief for Akron. The Aeros registered a season-high 12 strikeouts- Berger 6, Price 4, and Allen 2.

The Aero's Jared Goedert was 0-3, snapping his 11-game hitting streak. Nick Weglarz had two hits for Akron, including a double.

It was a chilly 43 degrees at game time.

The Aeros and Baysox will play game two of the series Tuesday night at 7:05. LHP T.J. McFarland (2-1, 2.30) will start for the Aeros against LH Cole McCurry (0-2, 4.91) of Bowie.

The next homestand at Canal Park begins on Friday, April 27th, when the Altoona Curve comes to town for the start of a three-game series. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
