Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves were defeated by the Charleston Riverdogs 8-5 Saturday night before 4,299 fans at State Mutual Stadium. The game marks the seventh loss this season to the Riverdogs.

Charleston didn't waste any time and struck early in the first inning. Dante Bichette Jr., Tyler Austin and Gary Sanchez would all come around to score after three walks, a wild pitch and RBI singles from Ben Gamel and Angelo Gumb, making it a 3-0 score. The Braves answered to make it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the inning after a single and a stolen base from Logan Robbins and a RBI-double from William Beckwith. The Riverdogs would answer in the top of the second adding two more runs to their lead, giving themselves a 5-1 advantage.

The Braves would threaten all night and would get within two runs of the Riverdogs in the fifth but Charleston pitching kept the Braves from getting a big hit with runners on base and picked up the 8-5 victory. Seven of the eight runs for Charleston would come with two outs in the inning while Rome stranded six runners and was 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position.

Scottie Allen (1-1) earns his first victory of the season for Charleston and Carlos Perez (0-1) gets the loss in his second appearance for the Braves. Rome takes on Charleston in the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 2PM. Sunday is Family Fun Fest at State Mutual Stadium where fans can get four hot dogs, four soft drinks, four popcorns and four tickets for just $30.
